Frequently asked questions

The questions we are asked most, grouped by the kind of booking. If yours is not here, ask us — we answer within one working day.

Corporate events

How long is a performance?

Individual pieces run 4–8 minutes. Most corporate bookings are a set of two or three pieces totalling 15–25 minutes, or two shorter sets across an evening. We will build it around your programme.

Can you perform more than one act?

Yes, and most clients do. A common shape is lion dance at the entrance, music through the reception, and a dance set after dinner.

Do you work outside London?

Yes, UK-wide, and internationally on request. Travel is quoted separately and transparently.

What if our venue has restrictions?

Tell us early. Most restrictions — noise, height, floor protection, open flame — have a straightforward workaround if we know in advance.

Weddings

How far ahead should we book?

6–12 months for a Saturday in peak season. Lion dance for an auspicious date books earliest. Ask even if it is short notice — we will tell you honestly.

Can you perform outdoors?

Yes, with a weather plan agreed in advance.

We are having a small wedding. Is that too small?

No. A solo musician or a single dancer works beautifully at an intimate wedding, and is often more effective than a large group in a small room.

Neither of us is Chinese. Is it appropriate to book?

Yes. Lion dance is performed as celebration and blessing, and is regularly booked by couples of all backgrounds. If you would like to explain its meaning to guests, we can provide wording for your order of service.

Private & special occasions

Can you perform in a private home?

Yes, regularly. Solo musicians and single dancers suit domestic spaces well. Send photographs of the room and we will advise.

How small is too small?

There is no minimum. A solo guzheng at a dinner for twelve is a genuinely lovely thing.

Can we request a particular piece of music?

Often, yes. Tell us what you have in mind — some pieces can be arranged for traditional instruments, others cannot. We will be honest about which.

Do you perform at memorials?

Yes. Please tell us the nature of the occasion when you enquire so we can suggest what is appropriate.
